Pocket Pc and Nettalk
« on: September 07, 2008, 06:08:50 AM »
Hi.
Using a pocketpc to get web pages and none of the nettalk examples works right. Buttons does not behave. A no show or no fire up on click, some controls works but other can not.. Handler can not be used error. But anyway, I can see the pages, icons and I can view all of the page, only that it can not be navigated.
What I intend to do is to use a PocketPc to get information into a host database. I want to use the pocketpc to show on-hand stock,  perform a sale, get customer info into the database and so forth. What would be the right way to accomplish this job? The pocketpc model I'm using is the Symbol MC50, which has barcode scanner, windows ce, wireless lan
Thanks
Jorge

Hi Jorge,

Which version of IE is it running?
I've heard that the Opera browser has a LOT better success when running on hand-helds.

Cheers

Hi Bruce.
This is MC50 Symbol,Windows CE 3:  Pocket Internet Explorer 4.01
IE can shows button's text, but does not react to click. As far I can see, does not run scripts (progress bar does not show). Page is correct, menus Ok, everything works but what is mentioned.
Tryied Opera, can not works at all. Pages not showing, handler error, Jscript whith lots of errors. Opera Mini and Opera mobile both are useless on my PocketPc.
When I install Java, IE starts with jscript errors (character 0 illegal and so forth)
Over all, only the button and progress are useless, If it can be fixed, I can go on.
Thanks
Jorge

Hi Jorgemir,

I have an HTC S720 running Windows Mobile.  Internet Explorer on it is a real dog with little compatibilty, and I have to jump through hoops to get Opera Mini to run.

Have a look at http://www.skyfire.com.  I haven't tried it on a NetTalk web app, but it has worked well for me on other sites that were tripping up both IE and Opera Mini.

Hi.
Skyfire only works for mobile telephones. Ie: needs a phone number associated.
IE works at most, only does not fires up buttons. If that problems is solved, works like a cham.
Regards.

Hi Jorge,

I suspect it won't solve the problem, but I suppose it's worth a try.
I think what I need from you is the "User-Agent" that the mobile appears to the server as.

ie, look at the server log, and pick out the User-Agent bit. For Firefox (2) it looks like the bit below...

GET /FrameFooter HTTP/1.1
Host: 127.0.0.1:88
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1.16) Gecko/20080702 Firefox/2.0.0.16
Accept: text/xml,application/xml,application/xhtml+xml,text/html;q=0.9,text/plain;q=0.8,image/png,*/*;q=0.5
