Putting JQuery Icons into XHTML strings

Hi,
Is there a standard method to add the JQuery button icons into display strings. Such as "Click on the
<check JQuery icon>
to select the record".
I would like to add a legend of the browse button icons below my browse.
Thanks

<span class="ui-icon ui-icon-locked"></span>
where the second class is obviously the button you'd like to display.
cheers
