Popup from button

I see how to create a popup form from a browse now (very nice), but is it possible to create a popup from an arbitrary button placed as a field in a tab?

The key question is "pop up what?"
A browse? Form? Page?

Sorry, I should have been more specific.. I would like to popup a form. The example is that I have a form that has several different groups of fields (tabs) displayed. I would like to conditionally place an edit button in each group. If the edit button is pressed a form is popped up to allow those fields to be changed. Pressing a submit button on the popup form would then return to the original page with the changed values displayed.
