Print button doesn't work
« on: September 07, 2010, 02:53:51 PM »
I'm assuming that if I setup a print button similar to a view button, the functionality should work very much the same.

I've placed a button in a column as well as at the bottom of the browse, in neither place they show up. I get a blank column and not print button. Is this working? I have defined a view button this way and they show up in the appropriate places.

Thanks,
Gordon

Hi Gordon,

For me to get the print button to show on the borwse, I set the Action of the Button to Other with the Use Equate as Other.  (See Attached Image: General Tab.png).  Then on the Properties Tab, you can set the URL and text for the Print Button.  (See Attached Image: Properties Tab.png).

HTH...

Hello Alan-

That's what I ended up using. I did want to use a similar button like the view, but the text button will work for now. I'll ask Bruce about it when he comes to Denver  :)

On a related note. I'm currently not using frames (though I will switch if this is the only solution). I've seen other websites where the generated pdf becomes an imbedded object in the browser. I'd really like my reports to do the same. Have you been able to do this or do your reports pop up in a separate window?

Thanks,
Gordon

Hi Gordon,
I usually have the reports ruin in another window so when the user closes the report, it doesn't close the app.

Hello Alan-

That makes sense, but can it be done? I would probaly have some other navigation buttons on the form.

Thanks,
Gordon

Hi Gordon,

As I recall the "built in" Print button doesn't do anything yet. It's there in preparation for some upcoming functionality.

With regard to embedded pdf's in a page, I experimented with it a bit, but didn't really get the reliability I was looking for. (PDF is a plugin after all).

Like Alan, the way I recommend it is to set the target of the URL to '_blank' which opens the report in a new tab.

Cheers
Bruce
