Local characters in FireFox
« on: October 22, 2008, 05:10:00 AM »
Hi.
I've noticed some strange behavour in PR17 when typing in local characters into a text field.
When I enter some norwegian characters into a field, they change when I leave the field with Tab.
Example:  æøåÆØÅ   changes to æøåÆØÅ

I can recreate the problem with Example App 1.  If I make it under 4.30 it works fine.  If I make it under 4.31 PR17 the "conversion" occurs.

The problem occurs only in FireFox (3.03). IE, Safari and Chrome works OK.

Hi Espen,

I'll look into this.

What code-page have you set your web site to use?
ie WebServer procedure, NetTalk extension, Settings Tab, Advanced Tab
"Charset:'

The default is 'ISO-8859-1'

Cheers

Hi Espen,

I'm not seeing this effect here, not in FF 3.0.3, and indeed not in any other browser either.
I'm wondering perhaps if it's a side effect of either your browser build, or perhaps an extension running in your browser?

Do you have another machine you can test in?

Any other Norwegian chaps out there reading this could perhaps try as well?

Cheers

Hi Bruce.

Thats stange. I've just installed FF on a freshly installed PC, and I get the same results. I've tested both the norwegian version of FF, and the US one.
Maybe it's something in my app?
But then again its stange that it works on 4.30

The problem is somehow related to the "Validate Immediatly" setting.
If I set "Validate Immediatly" to No, the problem dissapears.

Hi Espen,

Sorry, still no joy duplicating here.
I've tried with Auto Validate on, and Off, in FF 2 and FF3 but it always seems to work ok.

Can you send me an example, or is there a server online I can point to that shows the effect?

Cheers
Bruce

Hi Bruce.
Now I'm unable to recreate the problem!
Guess I'll call in sick.

Espen (very embarrassed).
