Taking Photos on a nettalk app
« on: August 30, 2016, 02:38:35 PM »
Hi Bruce et al,
I have a nettalk app with the" take photo" option running, as per your example.
The app takes a photo Ok  when running  from localhost:8090
but will not, if the app is run from a remote site using the IP address:8090

Everything else works  using the IPaddress:8090 remotely
Can you please tell me why ?
Also, my test is on a laptop with an on board camera...
Are windows Tablet and ipad  cameras  capable ?

ManyThanks
Richard c10 NT 6

Hi Richard,

I've been down that road and I have given up. I've found that the best thing you can do is to have the users take a photo with their device and then upload that photo in your app just like they would do with any other file. And for this to work you'll have to force your NT app into desktop mode (but you can create a page that'll look ok on a phone or tablet).

If you want true integration with the camera I believe you'll need to write a native app.

Thanks for your reply, Peter,
Thats bad news !
Im wanting to take a photo of employees as they log in , so its not exactly a situation of taking a selfie and sending it on.
However being an optimist, I look forward to Bruce's reply, as I cannot imagine the point of creating an example of webcam capability for a netTalk app which  doesnt work on the net
Cheers

Richard,
What you're describing here may be possible (and I think Bruce has done something similar in his kiosk app that he's been talking about).

My situation was a little different. The users take a picture of something like a room or a 'thing' and that just didn't work from inside the app.

thanks Peter,
Well its beyond me so hopefully ill get a solution.
My problem is that I tested the app using my own webcam and because it worked OK I released it to a client for  a network. Didn't occur to me that it wouldn't work !
Embarrassing really
Cheers
