Updating Dynamic Sites Underneath Host.exe
« on: July 15, 2013, 02:57:43 PM »
What steps do you take to update a server dll that is running underneath the multi-site host.exe.  I checked the "inactive" checkbox on the Host, but the dll was still "active" so I ended up having to shut down the Host.exe so I could replace one of the underlying server dlls.

I see from the docs that this should be a simple, quick process that does not shut down the Host, but I guess I don't understand the process to do that.

Suggestions?
Thanks,
Mike Springer

I'll check it out when there's a gap Mike, and perhaps extend the docs a bit. But for now perhaps just stop the Host, bump the DLL and re-start the host.

Remember that the host and all DLL's must be compiled with the same NetTalk build.

cheers

Thanks Bruce.
I'll follow up with you after the upgrades settle down and you get a breather.

Bruce,
Just popping this one back up now that things are settling down a bit.

The thing I don't seem to be able to do, out of ignorance, is to be able to make an update to one server dll without having to shut down the Host.exe.  The docs say that you can do that, but I haven't been able to find the combination to be able to not shut down the entire Host system just to update one dll.

ha ha - Settled down for you maybe mate, here's I'm going like the clappers to get ready for Devcon.

Your issue is one that needs to be addressed, but if we can defer that to after Devcon that would be great. Please bump it again then.

cheers

Ahhh, yes, Devcon - how could I forget that someone has to prepare for that.  Sorry Bruce - Devcon prep is way more pressing than this small question.  I'll be happy to bump this after you catch your breath after Devcon.

Hey Bruce,
Any chance you could take a breather and help out with the proper procedure to be able to shut down a NT dll under the multi-site Host without having to shut down the Host.exe?
Thanks,
Mike Springer
