Are multiple web servers needed?
« on: February 08, 2014, 02:59:00 PM »
Hi All,

I have a potential client whom wants to have a website that he can brand for each one of his customers. They also want to have there own url so they can login and see only there banners, pictures, and text. I know I can allow someone to brand the website via a database after login. But they want to see it based off the url. I guess I could do the sub-domain thing but would I have to have separate servers for this?

I do not want to maintain hundreds of NT servers for this as this will be a POS website!

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Ashley

This is probably a good question to ask at the user group on Thursday Ashley.

The short answer is "no" you don't need to maintain hundreds of servers - or at least you don't need to maintain one server per client - but I suppose the first question I would ask is "how many customers does your potential client have". Followed quickly by "how much is he prepared to spend per-client". Obviously maintaining a separate server for each client would be fairly labor intensive - especially if he has a lot of clients, or is adding them regularly.

cheers

Hi Bruce,

Yes I will ask the question on thursday. Of course the first one will take the longest to get running. From the conversation I had with him is that it could be hundreds that would be gradually added to the server. The NT Server will be accessed 24/7 and will include a scheduling module. Question would I have to purchase the CapeSoft Calendar templates?

PS Thanks for responding!
