NetTalk 6 and Clarion 6
« on: December 09, 2011, 05:22:18 AM »
I have a desktop application which is still under Clarion 6, for which I am writing a web application version. Although it is advised to use NetTalk 6 under Clarion 8, is it doable to use NetTalk6 with Clarion 6? I know I should convert that one application to Clarion 8, but I don’t have the time now. ::)

Depending on the features you need in your web app I would work with NetTalk 5 and give NetTalk 6 just a bit more time to mature and stablize. NT 6 is a great upgrade but needs a little time to mature.

OK thanks, I really would try the mobile options in NT6. My contractor is asking for it.

Cheers,

NT6 is fine under Clarion 6.

I am on Clarion 6.3 9058 at this moment because for me it is very stable.
I also have Clarion 7 and 8 but have not the time at the moment to leave 6.3.
So it is very nice to hear that NT6 is no problem under Clarion 6.

Thanks Bruce!

Best regards
Jeffrey

Hi Jeffrey,

>> I also have Clarion 7 and 8 but have not the time at the moment to leave 6.3.

be warned - once you leave you've never come back... C8 is _soooo_ much better than C6.

cheers
Bruce

Jeffery,
Bruce is Right! Once you get serious about Clarion 8 you will never go back.  I slept thru Clarion 7 and did not do much or anything very serious with it.  Clarion 8 came out and took me by surprise so I figured I had better get with the program and start learning.  Its really great stuff. I am no longer doing any new projects in 6.  I am only using Clarion 6 to maintain older projects that are not profitable to move to Clarion 8.  Its well worth your time to invest in the learning curve to move to Clarion 8.

I'll chime in here as well to say that I moved to C7 sometime last year, and then C8 this year and ALL new project we work on now are in C8.

I had to go back to C6 on my old laptop the other to take a look at a VERY old project, and OMG I couldn't fathom how I used to be able to do development in C6 at all !!  The very 'linear' workflow was stifling for me.

C8 still has it's occasional issues with the IDE etc., but as far as coding productivity, it's a winner!
