Scanning uploaded files before moving them
« on: July 26, 2011, 06:26:28 AM »
Hi,

The following caution is given in the book "Building Web Applications with NetTalk" on page 89:

Note: You should consider files that have been uploaded to be hostile. Do not assume that the file that
has been uploaded is safe. You may consider moving the file to a quarantine area for inspection before it
is made available for download.

I need to move these files uploaded by users into the database using a custom stored procedure - all of which works nicely now. My question relates to the ability to manually scan each uploaded file before calling the stored procedure to load it into the database. Is there an anti-virus product available with which I can scan the file manually for virusses before calling the stored procedure? I am looking at Microsoft Essentials - of which I would expect such an interface, but so far no luck.
