Offtopic, sort of - false virus alarm with NT

I have a very strange problem. On site on server our old client informed us some days ago that IT personal found virus (viruses) and that he found that our service based on Nettalk, back to version 4, installed over a six years ago, is source of viruses that compressed and encrypted all doc, jpg, pdf.... files (famous ransomware viruse).  Now we are in deep .... you know what, because clients lawyer send mail to us that we will be charged for spreading viruses to theirs server. We are 100 % sure that our program(s) never and nowhere spread any kind of viruses, but how to convince their IT personal in that?
Is anyone have any kind od that problems...

Hi Oggy,

I am not a lawyer, and I recommend you maybe ask your lawyer for the most appropriate response;

But assuming they are complaining about an app from a long time ago, you might just send them a polite letter suggesting that the exe on their drive pre-dates the virus creation, and hence you're not the one responsible. You might also suggest it is a false positive.

Of course it's possible that a virus on their machine has altered the exe in some way to spread itself. In which case the virus has come from elsewhere on the machine.

I would also definitely cc the company owner into the discusion - if it is a big client I would get my lawyer to draft the reply if I were you.

Yes, of course, that service app is from... I dont even remember when is installed at that server. Of course, our client have relatively small budget for IT and they do not use our services to maintain LAN, server... And about months or two, that IT guy appeared in and all of sudden, we are blamed for everything: bad and slow LAN, database corruption... etc...  The biggest problem is thad owner of that enterprise, is IT ignorant in full scale...  and there is no simply solution to explain to him the problem. We even helped IT guy to de-encrypted that files with Kaspersyk tool, but, even with that, we are blamed for everything...
