TinyMCE and IE9
« on: September 17, 2012, 07:40:30 PM »
Bruce,

Have you been able to look into my post on 9/14 about TinyMCE and IE9?  It seems popup forms have an issue with the editor, when run in IE 9.  Everything works as expected in FF and Chrome.  Also, on the iPad and Safari, the editor does not work at all.  I only see the text field with the raw HTML.

Thanks,

Jeff

no, I haven't investigated the post in more detail yet. But I have done some informal experimentation, and IE9 definitely seems to be a problem.

Thought this might be a TinyMCE issue so I updated to the latest version 3.5.7 but the problem still persists.

For me specifically it allows me to update the html field the first time but fails on subsequent updates. The other fields in the record update OK but not the field being edited with the TinyMCE plugin.

Parker,

That is exactly what I experience.  Hopefully Bruce will have a fix soon.

Bruce,

Just tested this issue on a MS Surface Tablet RT, which is IE 10 I believe.  I have the same issue with TinyMCE.  Any chance you will have a fix in the upcoming NT 7 release?

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Unfortunately I prohibited from commenting on NT7 at this time due to CHM regulations.

But there are only 6 days to go to the release, so there may be some news then which is applicable.

Bear in mind that IE10 is new and it may take some time for everything to support it directly. I am hopeful for solving the IE9 problem with TinyMCE as well, even in NT6, but time at the moment is very limited. (and debugging in IE particularly painful)

I know it's an oft-repeated refrain, and I know we don't have control over it, but it's worth reminding clients that there are alternative browsers and they're all better than IE in almost every possible way.

To paraphrase C. S. Lewis (and taking his quote completely out of context)

"We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with Internet Explorer when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased."

cheers
Bruce
