Reproducible bug with multiple lookups
« on: January 15, 2012, 05:33:19 AM »
Bruce this seems like a manifestation of a previous bug or in the same area at least. It has taken me a day to replicate this one thinking it was to do with groups in the dictionary etc.

This one is really worrying me as my app goes live this week and I am not totally sure what the problem is. I made a slip when creating the test app which showed up this error but it is not the same as my live app.

Anyway how to recreate this one:

Add say 2 items. Now add a Contact and then go to the Item tab. First of all try selecting lookups 2, 3 or 4 NOT 1 and these work fine. I made a mistake (fortunately) and left lookup 1 not as a popup.

So now try a new contact and select an item from lookup 1. See the replication? I do not believe this happens if you put the lookups on the same tab as the contact name.

What is really worrying me though is that in my live app I have these lookups on a tab and they replicate even if just one is selected. However they are all popups. So it is not consistent.

Thanks

John

Hi John,

>> So now try a new contact and select an item from lookup 1. See the replication?

you can't use a non-popup lookup from a popup form. Apart from the duplication you'll notice it also goes back to a "page form" rather than a popup form.

Unfortunately this isn't an example of what's really happening to you - merely an example of something you shouldn't be doing anyway, so I'm not sure it's helpful to your root problem. Elsewhere someone has raised the issue of duplication like this on page lookups, and I'll be following that through - but it doesn't sound like your problem.

cheers
Bruce

Hi Bruce

Yes I agree as my test app was working. I have double checked everything and it is still an issue if any of the subsequent lookups are empty.

So will wait ti see what the next version does.

Thanks

John
